I am an accredited Structured Literacy Interventionist and Orton Gillingham (OG) Practitioner. Over the years I have been in practice I have continued to read, learn, train and develop my quiver of evidence-based skills and resources. The blend I use for your child will depend entirely on what he or she needs and brings to the table on a given day. Learn more about me and the approach I use here.
Note: All sessions are VIRTUAL. Parents must remain within earshot and be prepared to provide hands-on assistance.
Multisensory Language:
Age: Elementary, although very young children find virtual sessions more challenging than in person.
If your child struggles with reading, writing, spelling, composition or anything else in the language domain these sessions will be targeted to his or her needs. Multisensory instruction is woven throughout each session.
Manipulatives: Multisensory instruction requires manipulatives. I will provide instructions on what you will need to purchase.
Language packages include more than just your session.
- Intake baseline assessment
- Programming based on the Science of Reading and customized to your child’s needs.
- Viewable progress monitoring.
- Weekly office hours that parents may attend to ask questions.
- Make-up sessions
- Manipulatives mailed to your home
- Strategy sessions 1 x per term on request.
- End-of-term report
- Lesson summary email
Session Timing & Frequency:
Sessions are 50 minutes long. After experience working with many different types of learners, I have found that this timing works the best for most learners.
I recommend 3 sessions per week for a boost start, or if your child is more than 2 years behind grade level. We move to twice-weekly sessions as quickly as possible.

“We were so fortunate to have Nicola work with our 12-year-old daughter – who is a dyslexic learner. As our daughter had never had any tutoring before, Nicola worked hard to close a lot of gaps over a very short period of time. Nicola was an absolute delight to work with, and incredibly supportive to me as a parent, and very well informed. She made learning fun for our daughter as well. When we moved away from Vancouver, Nicola continued to tutor our daughter twice a week by Skype and online. Not only is Nicola a whiz with technology (and so she was able to do many of the same activities she did in person, online), but she is so dynamic our daughter looked forward to these one-hour sessions. We HIGHLY recommend Nicola – and continue to be SO grateful we found her. She is highly skilled, she knows her ‘stuff’ and is really amazing to work with – for children and their parents?
