We’ve said it before and we are happy to endorse it every time “experts” announce that creative play is vital in child development. Throw away the rules and let your child just play with what ever takes his or her fancy.
In fact I had an entertaining afternoon when a friend came to visit recently with her 3 yr old. We gave him the game of “Jenga” to play with and showed him how it “should be done”. Obviously he was far wiser than us, he saw through the rouse – saw a bunch of building blocks and had a happy time building all sorts of things with the wooden blocks. Silly us for even telling him that it was a game.
Here is an interesting article from the news recently that talks more about the importance of creative play. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27789613/
